Airforce Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is conducted in February and August twice a year. AFCAT exam is the first step of the Indian Air Force Selection Process. Those who clear the exam proceed to the SSB interview and medical examination before making it to the final merit list. While the exam structure remains the same, overall scoring weightage might change. Hence, Candidates preparing for AFCAT 2022 exam must be aware of the AFCAT syllabus and exam pattern.
AFCAT 2022 Exam Pattern
Indian Air Force conducts the AFCAT exam to recruit flying, technical and ground duty staff. AFCAT 2022 exam for all branches consists of 100 objective-type questions. The questions are designed to evaluate English language, numerical ability, reasoning, general awareness & military aptitude, and the total duration of the exam is two hours. AFCAT numerical ability questions are of class 10th level. (Matriculation), While other topics contain questions about graduation level.
Airforce also conducts an EKT exam for the technical branch only. This test contains 60 objective-type questions from relevant engineering fields, i.e., mechanical, computer science, electrical, electronics & communication. The total duration of the exam is 45 minutes.
Marking Scheme of AFCAT Exam
Every correct answer gives a score of 3 marks. AFCAT Exam for all branches has provisions of negative marking for every incorrect answer. However, there is no negative marking for not attempting a question. It is crucial that you prep accordingly; you should only try the question if you are 100% sure about the answer to avoid negative marks.

- English: Error detection, reading comprehension, sentence completion, synonym/Antonym, vocabulary, idioms & phrases.
- Numerical Ability: Decimal, fractions, time & work, average, profit & loss, ratio & proportion, simple interest, speed, time & distance.
- General Awareness: History, geography, political science, art & culture, environment, general science, defense, current affairs and sports.
- Reasoning & Military Aptitude: Verbal skills and spatial ability.
AFCAT EKT Branch-Wise Syllabus 2022
- Computer Science Engineering: Analog and digital electronics, electronic devices, computer networks, network theory design, switching theory, information technology, electrical engineering, control engineering, telecommunication systems, microwave engineering, antenna and wave propagation, radar theory and instrumentation.
- Mechanical Engineering: Engineering mechanics, thermodynamics, aircraft structures, theory of machines, fluid mechanics/Hydraulic machines, manufacturing science, materials science, automotive engineering, power plant engineering, industrial engineering, flight mechanics and aerodynamics.
